Spring Break 09

for my spring break i went to ohio for the week. all my family from my moms side lives in ohio (ohio? out of all freakin states?). one thing i notice about cleveland and the like is that they get rap songs way before they come to new york. for example i went to cleveland about a couple months before soulja boy got hot in NY and it was already playing in cleveland, dont really know why that is. probly the demographics, whatever. 

so it was a pretty sweet vacation, short lived but fun nonetheless. now looking foward to finishing up my freshman year of college, cant believe it went by so fast. we only have like 2 months left and we're done...crazy shit. lookin foward to performing more in class, as well as other productions in the upcoming years.

MY MID TERM

YOU DIGGS?

David Quinones was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. Living on the crime-ridden streets of 158th street and Grand Concourse, he was exposed to many different situations that caused him to be raised two different ways: the smart, grade pulling student for his parents, and the street smart psuedo-hustler. He was brought up listening to hip-hop music and has witnessed the evolution of the genre in the past couple of years. 

David's peice here is not long, nor does it deliver an abstract message calling for a revolution. Instead, it is a simple peice from a song he and his colleagues had written several years back about the importance of school and integrating that importance into the Hip Hop culture. He wrote this verse himself but has changed it slightly for presentation purposes. 

David hopes to be involved in many more aspects of Hip Hop as well as theater in Lehigh University, all the while earning himself a degree in Theater. While he is far away from home, David does not forget where he comes from and gives credit where credit is due: his home, The South Bronx. 

wintertime

damn. i cant believe its actually over though. this was by far the best cast ive ever worked with on any show. it was my first real college performance in theater and now that ive started i dont think i want to stop. 

it was a lot of work, sure, but the payoff was fuckin amazing. we had some nights where we had shitty audiences, sure, but we all knew that we performed phenomenally and i give shoutouts to my fellow castmates who gave this show the "life giving sustinence it needs" (anyone who worked with the play or vaguely remember it will understand the reference).

one can compare the feelings of completing the play to a giant, mammoth sized orgasm. it felt incredible and phenomenal but at the same time you dont want it to end. but when you're done, you feel like you just want to go to sleep. (maybe thats more attributed to the orgasm but whatever). 

i had a fucking BLAST working on the play. shouts to alison, katherine, justin, matt, andrew, ben, millie, nicki and michelle for making it worthwhile. viva wintertime!!!

AUTHENTICITY

I think if you true to ur word, if you spit whats from the heart, and you dont let the guap and fame gass you up then youre authentic.

All this talk of authenticity these past few days kind of irks me because everyone has thier own perception on what authentic really is. Some people might think flav is still authentic, some dont, its all a matter of opinion.

holy shit this dude inspired me. i downloaded all his material looked him up on youtube, went to his website, this is a funny guy. im trying to memorize his material so i could perform it in front of my friends, i love the shit where he talked about the little girl wit da lemonade. funny as hell.

as far as class went, excuse my shitty performance im usually not sick. and im usually clean shaven. damn it was bad!! but its all good though, thats out of the way.
